I'm upgrading my mac os and so reinstalled daz 4.7 and then 4.8....the latest glitch is that there seems to be a break of link between smart content all my content which is on a separate internal drive. I've gone into content directory manager and made sure this file directory was added to both Daz and Poser formats, but still see nothing in Smart Content. Any suggestions?

Is CMS content manager? I don't understand the question.

Yes, it is the Content Manager.

If you are using the PostgreSQL manager it should start and stop whenever Studio is running. If you are using the older, Valentina manager it should be running all the time.

How do you tell if it is running or not? I access it through preferences. I've added the other internal drive to the directories, but I still see nothing in terms of smart content.

CMS (Content Management Service) is a process that runs under Windows in the Task Manager (I assume you are using Windows?)

If it is not running, go to Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D and start it from there. If you are on a Mac, I'm not sure how you start it, but it has nothing to do with Preferences or the Content Directory manager.

You should be able to run your CMS by going to your Applications folder.

    http://prntscr.com/6vg29n

In your DAZ3D folder, look for your DIM3DIM subfolder and double click the app icon to start it up. It should ask for your password which should be the same as your password for the DAZ site. From DIM you can click the gear icon and under installation, you can put in the correct path.

I have just installed daz 4.7 and when I open it there is no smart content showing, all it shows is the thumb windows empty, how do I fix this problem? I have re installed daz and tried several times and on the verge of starting at the total beginning and wiping my computer clean, please help.

    Do you mean Smart Content?

You should still be able to see any content you have in the Content Library pane. Smart Content relies on CMS to be running as a Process in Windows before it can work. Check Task Manager to see if CMS is running, if not, try to start it from Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D.

Re installing everything from the beginning and hopefully this will work, what if cms is not running? do we just find it and start it? so its in daz3d folder somewere?

Had the same thing on going to version 4.8..

Don't start again you just need to re-link to your meta data... mines fine after reimporting it from .. right click on Smart Content and choose Content DB maint.. then choose to "re import meta data..."

you might need to check that your paths in ..

Edit --> Preferences -->; Content Library ---> Content Directory Manager are pointed at your content...

Afterwards use Content Library right click to check known directories for content etc. - can help pick up the non meta data stuff

4.8 Seems fine for most things, I'm editing scenes so far... Things like the overview window look useful though I have turned off and organised things to look like my 4.7 for now. When I feel like exploring the interface I can take 1 change at a time instead of all at once.

To run some plug-ins there is a bit of work around as mentioned in relevant threads of the forum treads

I'm using GenX sometimes as some of my characters have V4/Genesis 1/Genesis 2 Versions, however when I need to convert a morph I simply save my scene, close 4.8 then fire up my old version DAZ which has my plug ins working. Most of my core characters started out as V4, while I mostly work in Genesis 1.

Yes, you can have both DS4.7 and DS4.8 Beta installed at the same time on the same machine, but you have to use DIM to install the 4.8
    version.

Yes, use DIM to install DS4.8

Make sure that you have the filter set to show Public Builds, or it wont show in the Ready to Install tab.
