How can I get a transparent background in iRay?

I've been fiddling with the new iRay engine and I'm basically impressed, but it's complex and there's not much instructional material as yet. My main issue is this. I usually render individual figures, with no scenic elements, as I prefer to add backgrounds in Photoshop. Although the render engine produces a pdf file, the background of all the renders I've done so far is black, not transparent. Am I missing something?

Turn off Draw Dome and Draw Ground under Environment in Render Settings.

Thanks - that did it. I'd tried turning off the dome, but hadn't turned off the ground.

Choose scene only that should only render the content you have added :-)

  • Leave Draw Ground ON if you want shadows. This will not effect transparency.
