I have no lighting, just my model in my scene, I render a shot and there seems to be bright light li

Like it says in the headline, I am trying to figure this out because I want to create nice ambient lighting in my scene. When I add a couple spot lights, photometric or not, all i see in my rendered image is my model with a powerful side light creating harsh shadows. Can anyone let me know what to do to fix this, what needs to be shut off that I am not seeing?

The attached image is an example of the lighting I am talking about. I did not put the light to the side to create the shadows that are seen in this image. There are no distant lights, or anything but my model and a box primitive. This is most likely a huge noob error but I cannot seem to find an answer when I search on google. Thanks for any response.

I'm guessing you are rendering using Iray. Which settings are you using Dome, Dome and Scene , Sunsky etc,

Are you using Studio? If so, which version of Studio. If you're using 4.8, are you using Iray?

did you turn OFF the Headlamp, found in the Camera settings. Once turned off using Ctrl + L to turn it back on so you can see what you are doing. When you render the headlamp with still be off.

The picture is with the default camera headlamp turned to OFF.. The environment settings I don't have in front of me at the moment but I'm pretty sure it was at dome and ground

It looks like the sun is lighting the scene. WIth Iray the Environment settings are very important for lighting your scene allowing several ways for light to be naturally added.

If you look at the top of the Environment tab there is a dropdown with four options called Environment mode. Each setting opens a different variable of settings which will change how your scene renders depending on how you change them.

If you want only lighting you have added to your scene you should select.

Scene Only - Uses only lights included in the actual scene with Iray Ground with no skydome, Iray Dome and Iray Sun light.

Or alternatively go the sun settings in the environment tab and adjust the time of the day to say the evening or early morning for a softer sunlight.
