Is it no longer showing in your Ready To Download tab? I assume you uninstalled it with DIM?

Check Show Hidden in the Ready to Download tab of DIM. If that doesn't.

Normally when I uninstall something, it is put into the 'Ready to Install' tab in DIM. (NOT Ready to Download)

Have you looked in there too?

Sorry to ask a stupid question (as I don't know what exactly entails "followed the instructions" :red:), but you have selected "Public/Private Built" in the DIM settings?
I forgot to set the marke when I wanted to download 4.8, and was searching myself silly until I remembered that I had specifically set DIM to not show Beta versions...

yes. i have ticked the appropriate boxes, i have looked under all the tabs, searched for "public" and everything. it got sucked into a void.

I don't know... the only thing that comes to mind is looking at the directory where DIM saves content, and there manually delete the downloaded DIM file, if that wasn't already deleted by DIM.
The only other option is to submit a ticket about it: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/requests/new

I still can't even download this. I've gone through the instructions a few times now and have yet to find it in my "Ready to Download" tab. I wonder if this is a mac/safari thing?

Can you post the bottom portion of the Download Filters from your Ready to Download tab?

I have those boxes checked according to the instructions if that is what you're asking.

I also have that "support content" installed and there are a lot of files placed in the Daz Library Shader folders. I'm on a mac.

i figured out my issue after the help desk suggested things i already tried. i went into my download filters and ticked the boxes for plugins and software and the beta showed up. hopefully, this helps others having similar issues.

That worked! Just make sure the plugin and software boxes are also ticked. I can see the 4.8 Beta as well as a lot of other items. What is GoZ? Is that part of the new build?

If you have Public Beta and Plugins checked you should see a GoZ for the Public Beta. I'm not sure if you can have both the beta and release GoZ's installed at the same time -- I think installing the beta version will uninstall the release version.

Goz is the Z-Brush bridge...if you don't have Z-Brush don't worry about it.

Sorry, misread your question -- GoZ is the bridge between DS and ZBrush.

Thanks. I skipped the GoZ. Now that I do have 4.8 up and running I've run into a dialogue box when to open any pre-existing project or load a new model into a scene: Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected.

If I go forward I see a crude box version of the model or project in question. Do I need to do something else to open files in 4.8? The program does seems to access the same library of content as 4.7 does.

The beta and release don't share settings, so if you don't use the default content locations you'll need to go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager and edit your DS-format and Poser-format content folders.

Thanks. That did the trick. I keep my content in a separate drive.

I was interested to test the new Iray for rendering. I take it a much stronger graphics cards is needed and my nvidia 8800 won't do the trick? The still I've attempted to render just come out mostly black with a some dots where the models are.

In the case of a video card that can't run GPU rendering it should fall back to CPU rendering, like 3Delight. Since it actually did something, the problem is not that isn't rendering, but rather one of not having the proper light settings (most likely) or having the correct environment set up in Iray.

I'll have to do some Iray research then. The scene renders fine in 3Delight. I didn't know alterations had to be made before it will render in Iray.

The lighting is due to the differences in render engine — 3Delight uses a variety of workarounds and tricks to fake real real-world lighing, Iray actually simulates real-world lighting pretty accurately. This can make lighting simpler once you get used to it, but it is very different; there's a good chance that a 3Delight light set will not work at all in Iray, or at least need a lot of adjustment.

Does that mean that all the pre-rigged lights that came with various environment I've bought are no longer useful if I want to render with Iray?

Not all D|S lights are created equal — if they're AoA Advanced or any flavour of Uber lights, they will only work in 3Delight. Default D|S lights (the ones you can select from the toolbar) should work with a bit of adjustment, but be aware they will work differently in Iray. Remember, though, D|S4.8 still has 3Delight so you'll still be able to use all those light sets. In fact, you might see some quality or speed improvement, since the new beta has an updated version of 3Delight.

That's a yes, to both of those...

And 'environment sets' was mentioned. One of the big 'black' render causes is both light settings and the huge difference between Iray and 3Delight. Iray does not need a dome/sphere, in fact a skydome that works in 3Delight will actually more than not work in Iray...it will act as a giant umbrella and block the 'native' sun/sky from getting light to the scene.

So how would you create a sky in that case if you can't use a sky dome?
