Hi all, is it possible to punch a hole through a primitive?

Yes, with the Geometry Editor you can hide or delete polygons.  Your primitive has to have enough polygons in order for it to look right, though.

Thanks will give that a try

By hiding polygons, you can usually only make rectangular holes  otherwise they will have rough edges

I think there are some good free morphable  primitives on renderosioty that can be used as holes

This would be a great opportunity to learn a little Blender. The Boolean Modifier using "Difference" and the "Exact" option would do this perfectly.

Use a black and white mask in the Opacity Channel. You can have any shape you like then. This works with the Plane for the other primitives use the geometry tool to create new Surfaces where you want the hole to go. In the Surface Tab use the mask on these surfaces.

If you go with the Geometry Editor method, if you have fine enough geometry in your primitive you can round the edges nicely with MeshGrabber.
