Delete does not delete

Earlier if I wanted to delete an object, a figure, a camera etc from a scene, I just selected it and hit the DELETE button and it was gone. Suddenly DELETE has stopped working and I have to right click with the mouse and then select delete. Very annoying as the old way of deleting is in my spine these days. What setting may I accidently have changed?

What tool do you have selected?

try reloading your layout (Window>Workspace>Select layout) as it sounds as if the keyboard shortcuts have been lost. have you used Task Manager to force-close DS?

It worked but now I blew all my other  conformings  :(

The background is gray and everything is in the wrong position.
