Only the most recent products are appearing in the Product List. Where could they be?

I have been hesitant to upgrade to 4.6.3.5 because of all the problems people have been having. ( I just KNEW I would be one of them!) So...I waited for several months until, hopefully, most of the bugs were out.

I finally broke down and took the plunge and upgraded. I also updated the DIM installer thingy. I opened D/S and, wonder of wonders, it seemed to be working! I loaded a couple of old projects and some new products to make sure, and....

Wait.

Where are my products?

My preferred method of finding products is to look in the Content Library tab below "DAZ Studio formats"...below "Poser formats"...below "Other Import formats" and above "Categories" in the "Products" list.

And the strangest thing happened. Usually, I have most of the letters of the alphabet there, with many products in each.

This time, I only had 3 alphabet letters: D, K and N

And in them were the most recent products I had bought or gotten as freebies: DAZ Water Pump and Grain Silo, (and the Poser version), Knights Templar (a cool outfit), (and the Poser version), and "Noctem" and StudioCF version.

Weird.

Today I got 2 more freebies, and guess what! 2 more letters appeared: L and S

Lune Portail (and Poser version), and Shelter (and Poser version).

Still weird.

So of course my question is: Why aren't the rest of my products appearing in the Product List, and what can I do to get them to show again?

Thanks!

David

Try Re-Importing Metadata -- your Valentina database was probably corrupt so not everything was transferred to the PostgreSQL CMS.

    yes...that worked.

    Grrr!

I upgraded to 4.8 and I am again having issues with products not showing under "Products"; and under Smart Content, only the names appear. There are no thumbnails of anything.

When I click on any product, I get a message "Could not open file. " does not exist."

I have tried going into the database maintenance and reimporting metadata, which has worked to correct problems before. Not this time.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Do you mean the folder exists but has no files in it, or it has files with a yellow triangle instead of a regular icon? Could you check Content Directory Manager to make sure your DAZ Studio Format and Poser Format content folders are correct?

Something weird is definitely going on with the CMS since the upgrade to 4.8. I am getting all kinds of strange results.

    A. There are files under the "ready to download" tab that have been there for a week. They won't download.

    These 'ghost files" are:

    1. GoZ for DAZ Studio 4.8+ (Win 32-bit)
    2. GoZ for DAZ Studio 4.8+ (Win 64-bit)
    3. Photoshop 3D Bridge for DAZ Studio 4.8+ (Win 32-bit) Public Build +Beta+
    4. Photoshop 3D Bridge for DAZ Studio 4.8+ (Win 64-bit)
    5. Photoshop 3D Bridge for DAZ Studio 4.8+ (Win 64-bit) Public Build +Beta+
    6 PostregSQL CMS (Win 32-bit)
7 PostregSQL CMS (Win 32-bit) Public Build +Beta+

I have downloaded free products in the past week These free products have gone into the "ready to download" tab same as always, and shown up alongside these 7 ghost files files. Usually, the download and installation proceeds with no interference from me. I just sit and watch. (Cool when it works properly.) Lately, everything freezes, and I have to manually start the download by selecting the products I want to download and clicking "start".

So...lately I have had to manually select everything and watched while they move 1 by 1 to the "ready to install" tab.

Normally, I don't open this tab. I just sit and watch them install 1 by one. Lately, I have had to open the tab, and manually start the install. So I do that, and watch as they install 1 by 1.

But when I go back to the "ready to download" tab, the 7 ghost files are back! This has happened a number of times, both with freebie products and purchased products.

    B. After installing products, I go in and try to load them. Here, more weirdness happens! I have gone to the "Content Library" tab and selected "products". All the letters of the alphabet show up, but when I click on one, say, "L" for "Little Urban Disaster", there's nothing listed under "L". When I go check other letters, there's nothing listed under ANY of them! Everything is blank.

So, after allowing my heart to return to a normal pace, I go looking other places. DAZ Studio formats>My DAZ Library or My Library. I can eventually look around and find stuff, so I know it's still in there somewhere.

Then I try the "Smart Content" tab. When things are working correctly, there's a thumbnail of the products I own. When things are weird, there is a yellow triangle.

So I have gone to "Content DB maintenance" and reimported metadata. I have done this 5-6 times in the past week because these weird things keep happening. Sometimes, reimporting metadata works and everything shows up. Sometimes not.

When reimporting metadata doesn't work, I have tried exiting from DS and relaunching. (doesn't work)

Last night, I wanted to buy some stuff, but was at the point where I had no products in the "Content Library" tab, and only yellow triangles under the "Smart Content" tab. I had tried all these things to fix it with no success. Ah, what the heck, I bought them anyway, exited DS 4.8 and launched the CMS to download and install.

I went though the now usual process of manually starting the download, (including the 7 ghost files), and installing everything (including the ghost files). I launched DS 4.8 and guess what! Everything appeared to be back to normal! The "Smart Content" tab had icons instead of little yellow triangles (yay!), the products tab had everything under the correct alphabet letters (I am assuming, of course; I didn't actually check every single one...), and all was well with the world!

Well, not quite. The 7 ghost files were back under the "download" tab in the CMS. I checked this morning. They're still there.

Time to call in the big guns.

    (That would be you guys...)

First, the thing that downloads and installs the content is the Download and Install Manager...DIM.

CMS is the Content Management System that, with the use of a database service, keeps track of your content, on a 'local' level (your computer).

CMS can't download/install anything...and the DIM doesn't control what appears in Smart Content.

When the yellow triangles show up in Smart Content, that means there is no connection to the database...the service is either stopped or is being blocked by your security software (yes, it does happen and depending on the database server and security software, it can happen a lot).

    Now...

What version of Windows? What security software (there are some known, long standing conflicts with certain security software and certain database servers)?

Is the content installed to the default locations? Custom locations? If custom, is it an external hard drive? network device?

Yes, of course I meant DIM...sorry.

And do you mean to tell me that things can work fine (mostly) for the past 2 years, then suddenly I can have all these conflicts...and coincidentally, after upgrading to 4.8? I haven't changed my Windows version. Still running Windows 11.0.9600. I suppose it's possible that Windows updates could result in a conflict with 4.8

And I haven't changed anything on my security software. Still running McAfee...which updates weekly at least. May be conflicts there, too.

I do believe that something is causing a conflict so that there is no connection to the database…the service is either stopped or is being blocked by something. But what?

I just haven't been able to nail down a cause or a fix.

Content is installed wherever the DIM puts it. I haven't modified anything. I do know that there are a couple of different locations. but it's been this way since I first installed DAZ

So, anyway, I thought I would provide as much info as possible in case someone else had a similar problem, or so the tech guys could look into it.

    My System:

    Mfg: Gateway
    Model: FX6840
    Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93 GHz 2.93 GHz
    RAM: 8.00 GB
    Type: 64-bit OS

Graphics Card :NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

    Thanks!

On items like GoZ, Photoshop Bridge and PostgreSQL CMS, only one version can be installed at a time. So if you install the version that comes with the public beta, it will uninstall the version that comes with the general release.

Can you go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", and post a screenshot?

Also, check if McAfee is still whitelisting the things it should be. If you had one version of PostgreSQL installed and whitelisted, and you install a different version, McAfee will probably block it.

And if it's more that just AV definitions that update, McAfee can/does reset to 'defaults', which means previously whitelisted things are no longer whitelisted.

Also...what do I need to do with those files in the DIM?

Is there an easy way to delete them? I looked around and couldn't see how to delete.

    Thanks!

You can right-click on the item in the "Ready to Install" tab if you've already downloaded them. Then go to the "Ready to Download" tab and right-click on them and select Hide.

Those paths are correct, assuming you're using the default path in DIM also. The likeliest cause of the problems is McAfee blocking PostgreSQL CMS.

Ok..I got those files hidden. (not exactly the same thing as deleted, is it...?)

You said, "The likeliest cause of the problems is McAfee blocking PostgreSQL CMS."

...which I find odd, because this is a very intermittent problem. It comes and goes. For example, since earlier in the week when I posted about this, there have been no problems at all. Something will trigger it (no idea what), and something else will fix it (no idea what).

Maybe it's been when I've bought something or gotten a freebie, and have been trying to download and install those "ghost files" along with the new stuff. McAfee may be acting up then...no idea.

I need to look into managing McAfee. I've never messed with any of the settings. No idea what whitelisting is or how to change settings.

Anyway, thanks for the quick responses and the helpful suggestions!
