Here's my newest one. In this scene Owen and Boyd (who is still in brain form), discover an injured or defective drone pilot.

This is pretty awesome. Dynamic and riveting.

When I initially rendered that I didn't like the way the blacks looked in the background on the texture of the building. They were too uniform and artificial.  I've found with iray that the blacks are overdone sometimes. Almost to the point that iray renders tend to have a colorized photo look with the blacks really obvious and kind of patternly. In real life there really isn't nearly so much black... Dark colors, just not that black dark shadows.

So I take it all into photosohop and tweak the setting. This had the added bonus of me attempting to blur out the real flames.... Mostly because where it joins the ground its very flat. There quite honestly isn't anything to burn on that surface so having such high flames would be implausible, but so.... I had to do more photoshop.

Although I do enjoy illustrating the light hearted side of Boyd and Owen's existance the future of never-endign war tends to produce interesting renders... When I'm thus in the mood to depict what they do when they work.

This set we got free as a Christmas freebie. I replaced the bow tie with the one from the playboy bunny costume for women and think it turned  out a lot better

I think you could use the bow-tie that comes with the G3M Tux as well seperately from the rest of the tux.

Yeah that one is rounded which I think might be a better look.

Either one is more like the bowties worn by Chris Farley / Patrick Swayze in that old Chippendales dance.

Uzilite has a new female g8 outfit that looks pretty good available.

as far as the bow tie goes any suggestions on how it should be parented so it stays in place.

Just autofit/parent it to your G8M model as 'Genesis 3 Male' and unsupported, then it won't actually parent it to you G8M model so sometimes you must in the scene tab right click & parent to your G8M model (it won't autofit this time because it was already autofit.

I tested with several preset poses (for the Lucas 8 Pro Bundle) and the G3M Tuxedo Tie by itself fit directly on the G8M neck autofollowed fine. The only problems occured when the G8M's head/neck would be posed such that the jaw would pinch the bowtie, but that is expected because there really isn't no physics simulation.

Yeah! I’ve notice my more popular images are the ones I spend a lot of time photoshopping and also oddly are orange or contain flame. All my top images in my gallery are the ones I noodle with for hours in Photoshop and are typically kinda orange.

I can see people prefer my postworked stuff also my images which contain action.

Never had any romantic ones hit the strip and no couples imagery.

i just find it interesting what the store demographic likes and what it doesn’t. I don’t tend to go very high up in the banner but sometimes I hit the bottom or go up to about 35.

I've noticed that that is also generically true on the Gallery Strip overall too. Consistently you see post-worked images (which is good and A for effort too) but a big number of those have an orange overcast to them. I've always heards reds & warms to stimulate emotion and hunger and blues and cools to stimulate calmness so I think it's intentional on the part of some artists and must work.

Favorites from my personal gallery tend to be straight attempts at imitations of pop culture. Nothing wrong with that and it's not a surprise because people like unexpected examples of what DAZ can do I think.

These are my top most popular images. You can pretty much see That men with guns, and oranger images are popular. But there are a fair amount of darker images there too. But guys with guns and a few hot-dude pics are in my top image categories. The top 6 have made the gallery. Not complain' just I find it interesting.

By contrast these are are my least popular images. Some of these are pretty postworked as well. So I suspect both subject matter and my artistry are less good/popular. They are also more vivid and definitely portray Owen and Boyd together as a couple, whereas my top images only has one oldie where Boyd is handing Own some soap and is definitely pretty ambiguous.

In general I only delete an image if I don't like it anymore or it gets zero likes and even though some of these have Owen and Boyd looking dated I still like them.

I have about a hundred images in the store, and there is also a fairly large middle area of images that people like pretty well, but don't make the top tier.

I don't do images specifically to appeal to other people But it always surprises me which ones rocket to the top and which ones languish in obscurity.

Nonesuch: okay I gave the tuxedo tie a whirl, and to me, it doesn't look as good as the tie from the bunny set. First it seems to stick out a lot more on the guys necks.... And it totally deforms for some reason on Owen's neck looking smooshed. Owen's neck is pretty thick, but so far... I'm not sure about this. Maybe a manual placement would look better.

Yes, I couldn't properly shrink it either. I've been wanting to get the bunny outfir for a while and it wll allow me to do a proper Chris Farley / Patrick Swayze Chippendales render some day too.

As far as your images it was interesting to see 'Sarge' and 'War Dog' as I guess early versions of Owen & Boyd, however the best images of those in the thumbnails you posted to me is your 'Happy New Year' image. It's much better than I remember.

Personally, a lot of times I consider redoing a render in the future if it looks much, much better as a thumbnail than it does at full size. When I see that, it says the composition, lighting, colors are all very good. I have a about a 1/2 dozen renders like that myself although really DAZ Studio and my modeling skills aren't up to the test of retrying to do those renders again yet.

Most of my top images are genesis 3. Which I stopped using last year. Yeah, that is an early Boyd and Owen. I moved most of the morphs to gen 8 but they look different somehow.

I liked the new years image. I made that when I was sicker than a dog at home, bored stiff so it pleases me that you like it. It wasn't hugely well received but i has a lot of technical challenge. I may redo it again next year, like I revised my thanksgiving image.

I feel it captures Boyd's fun-loving spirit as he is a bit of a joker- but really only with Owen. Even as a brain he was a bit of a comedian and this he carries with him to his human incarnation.

DAZ is losing me with the onslaught and non-stop female releases. I hardly look at them anymore. I know that Victoria 8 will be a biker, a heavy metal rocker, a sci-fi warrior, and Michael will get his 3rd short outfit =-)

Fortunately there is RENDO. Our own Phoenix1966 has released a nice new guy James  and... I found a Chippendale set for Genesis over there. If it will fit Gen 8, we shall see how it fits Mr. Boyd...

Today's release here include a pretty decent couples set here... by DA.  They include 10 poses for Genesis 8 female and Genesis 8 Male and look pretty natural without being overly smexy. This means you can easily genderbend them, so they are in my cart, and I will pick them up. That cafe looks nice too- love that stove and looks really good inside. Its a bit outside of my price range for now, but be sure to check it out. I love that you can hide the ceiling and that stove is really nice.

I plan on buying all 3 of Phoenix66's characters from that show, not because I am a fan of the show or even seen the show but because they are good work. There are military uniforms there I want too although made for M4. And some beach style enviroments and such.

I'm not really being pushed away from DAZ but I've got a sizable library now and find there is not much I need. And I don't now if you have paid attention but it seems that the dForce women's clothing is more expensive.

I think I will most be a PC+ shopper at DAZ until Genesis 9.

Yes, I've noticed the price increase on womens's dforceable clothing... So far none of it thrills me. Looks a bit thin- like MD stuff. If I were inclined to buy, it would certainly not be at the current price. I'll stick with what I have.

I do wonder about the over saturation of female stuff. Will there ever be a tipping point? There has been for me.....

I own a ton of unused female content from gen 3. My needs in regards to females is fairly small. So, I just pass over the female-themed content.

I think females are well represented in the gallery and store anyway so I don't feel a specifc need to emulate or join in making female renders. I've never been one to embrace what everyone else likes. Its more interesting to me visually and certainly more challenging to do male renders. Since the store basically mostly makes female content, tools, morphs, lights, and clothing, female renders of the pretty-girl variety practically render themselves.

I do a lot of female renders, so I still buy female items. I am a lot more selective, though, because I have so much already. Prices have made me wishlist, rather than buy, a lot lately. Even vendors I would buy from without a second thought in the past, have ended up on the wishlist instead, because prices just keep creeping up. I can render one of my G3 people and use the morphs I already have for them, rather than buy the same products over and over again. On the other hand, some new vendors have come on the market with a new take on some of the old morphs type products. I bought and enjoy the RareStone morphs for both genders. Some new vendors have come out with entirely new concepts for products, like the RiverSoft Art billboards and the Parris IBL Master. I find myself being more attracted to the "something new" rather than "the new generation of something old".

I can think of three things, besides base price, that cause me to hesitate to buy on impulse:

    1. The perception that I am not getting the best price, because the advertised sales may not be working right. Every day it seems that at least one sale is not working until someone complains in the forum to get it fixed hours later.
    2. The perception that I am not getting the best price, because the sales are so complicated and convoluted that I would have to spend hours checking for product combinations to trigger discounts.
    3. The perception that 50% or 60% off is not a good sale anymore, because we see frequent higher discounts and products given away free.

I still check the store everyday, though, so Daz still has me addicted, and I still enjoy it immensely.

Its pretty obvious the stuff I buy. Military clothing, weapons, short hairs, sci-fi, mens clothing, and accessories, and realistic and not too memory intensive scenery. I like HDRI, and I like shaders. I buy morphs, and characters even though I admit I seem to collect characters more than I use them.

I have pretty much most of the recent men's non fantasy outfits in the store as well as what was made for genesis 3. Some of it is usable but a lot really needs to be updated as the style and fit, just lacks realism.

If I had more basics I probably would say I had enough. A decent military unifrom which didn't cling, a space uniform series, some sideburns and facial hair, and additional undwear. There are only a few kinds of male underwear and I use them repeatedly. I am bored. Even autofitting old stuff, just gets tiring.

When it comes to sales what holds me in check a lot, is if there has been a recent sale and say I got a discount on 2 new releases, and I put two new releases in my cart, and there is nothing additional. I tend to put stuff on wishlist at that point rightly or wrongly and wait for a better deal.

Oh, in case anyone's interested the chippenmale set for genesis at the other places  autofits better than many of my genesis 2-3 clothing to gen 8. Go figure. I thought I'd be doing a lot of manual fitting but nope. The collar may be warping a little but the thong is great

Having studied the issue with bowties in general I think the problem is making the bow itself conforming. The neck piece and tie should conform to the neck, but the bow is not going to wrap around the neck and plaster itself there, its going to be more of a free agent, sticking out- not too much- but certainly not curving around.   Manually placing the bow simply looks better than any conforming tie.

That said, I have messed around with Chippenmale and I love the thong and cuffs, and the money props. Really useful. The collar itself deforms too much for usefulness.

Free? How do you actually get it?

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,651

Its zero dollars. When you click the image you name your price as zero dollars. You may be required to make a store account, but since I already have one, It went into my library. I think gumroad may be having a technical issue though because even though I have the link of this and a recent purchase emailed to me the store is not letting me download it.

I don't want to misrepresnt the facts- but the tie is still bunny tie. For some reason its the only tie with enough fabric fullness to look good in the 3 I've tried.
