dForce hair: how to know the number of faces they have?

Since it happens that I have to work with heavy scenes with a lot of characters and stuff, I always take a look at the number of faces of the items I use with the very useful script "Scene optimizer" (I already know that the number shown is the one of the current preview, so I use the same number of SubD in the preview and render).

But how to check the number of faces of dForce hair?

For example, as soon as I import one of those dForce hair, the scene optimizer tells me that those hair got 0 faces and just 380 for the cap. But when I activate the option "Preview Render On", the number of faces explode and get to more than 1.830.000

Now here's the real question: is this very high number faces the one that the software will have to handle when I'll render the scene? Or it's so high because the software has to show me the preview, and later in the render it's number will be lower, and if so, how to check the actual number?
