materials error

Hello, im new to daz and am having some trouble with the materials and putting them on a figure, every time i try to put a material in the scene, it will either not spawn in of send me this error ,an error has occured while reading file, see log for more details. and when i go to the log it says Invalid node selection for "preset_material" type , what do i do

Materials are not stand-alone, you need the target items selected (the figure, the clothing - whatever the maetrial is to apply to).
