Anyone know how to make Real Fur for Big Cats 2 work in Luxrender?

It seems to work OK in 3Delight but using Reality 2.50 and Luxrender 1.2.1 the big cats render OK but no fur is visible ........ am I missing something I wonder? Any pointers will earn my eternal gratitude.

You can't the FUR is based on 3Delight Curves so only 3Delight and Renderman support them. You would need to save the Fur as Object, which would be HUGE files and use the object version if your PC could handle the load.

Luxrender can do curved based hair...but not directly. To use a riCurve based hair, it would need to be converted to Blender curves and then, in Blender sent to Lux, as a curve based hair item.

In other words, no direct route. And, the path I laid out above is pretty much theoretical, as of right now, because, I have no way of testing it to see if the conversions can actually be done (don't have the product in question...).

The Blender Luxrender exporter (LuxBlend) would do the final conversion...there used to be a riCurve to Blender script around, but I don't know if it even works any longer...it was an older one and a lot of things in Blender have changed.

So, basically, it's a 'not yet' thing.

Thanks very much for such a quick reply. Object version is a bit outside my competence level unfortunately (well a lot to be truthful), 2,000 dollars for Renderman is way over my budget and my computer (Quad core i7, 32 gig ram, 6 gig GPU) is already staggering when I load up the LAMH characters. I think I'll live without fur for a while but thanks again for the info.

In truth the Object versions can be saved from LAMH or from the LAMH Player. But as I noted the resulting files ARE huge and only the ONE pose they are saved from. Even my 64GB Ram machine does not Like the CAT fur as objects.
