Can i create a test content folder to help me rebulidng my content library.
Hello everybody
I'm going to recreate my content library, hoping to do something more easy to find.
I think i will follow this scheme : http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/11176/#160909
Now my problem is i have a lot of new things and i need to test them to see where to put it.
I made an attemp with two poses, created a test folder, then tried to create meatadata and messed up totally with DB that i had to reinstall DAZ and CSM...
My idea to organize things using this method :
A test folder, to check product and to see where to place it.
Then move the folders inside Test folder to the specific folder.
Example:
I have a building.
I test it, then if i like it i decided to keep it so i may put it in different folders.
If i want to use only indoors i have the folder indoor sets , if i want to use external i have the folder building.
What i would like to create it's a tree of folders like this.
Genesis Charaters
Genesis 2 Charaters
Girls 6 Charters
Teen 6 Charters
Genesis Chlotings
Genesis 2 Chlothing
Indooor sets
Outodoor sets.
Bulidings
Rooms
And so on...
Does it sound insane to you ?
After i tested all i put in the folder, then i replace actual Content with new Content in folders...
Thanks so much to everybody.
Merry Christmas
Jack

Well, Genesis is already set up like that. It is contained in People > Genesis > Clothing/Characters etc, and so is Genesis 2, so I don't see any real advantage in doing a lot of extra work.
The simplest way to do what you want, is to use your own Categories, and as you are setting them up, you can save frequently so that nothing will be lost. This has the added advantage of not moving anything on your HDD, only creating new entries in the database, so you can set up a Category for Genesis, then Clothing, and each item of clothing after that, with a sub-folder of any materials that apply directly to that clothing.
It is also really useful for Hair, as you can put the V4 fits with V4, and the Genesis ones with Genesis, and you don't need to worry about selecting the wrong one, or searching for the right one, they will all finish up in the right place.
AdamR has a tutorial about this subject in particular, I think you should have a look at it, I'll try to find the link for you.
Here is Adam's video tut : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79Rpt_ll3qE
If you need any help on this, just ask.
Dear Jimmy
That's was what i would like to avoid, if is possible.
I mean
I Tought to create a folders tree like in the example of Szark
Partially i already did it.
I made four folders but is still a problem.
Let's see starting from how i use to work and what are my issues if we can find a solution.
Actually i like to use Smart content plane, because it show me things that i may not remember to have and also browsing my library.
I made four folders.
My Libary, Inside there are people, clothes, lights, mutplane cyclorama, and some poses.
Ambients, i put only some product like West Park, Bar Italia
Poses , it's a mix of poses for genesis and Genesis 2 without metadata, and that usually i can't find.
Objects , mixed props but is quite messy..
I have all Gen2 Bundles and last one is Olpmpia 6 Pro.
I can't test it and i want to get rid of old V5 charaters, whit many other stuff that i don't use.
So at this point i decided to rebulid completly my library.
If you for example said that to split Genesis it's wrong it's fine to me,
What i would love to have is a tree of folder where i'm sure i will find what i look for.
An example
People ( Geneisis, Genesis 2)
Clohtes ( same )
Environments (often can't find, them.)
Furniture, same problem i gace a bed inside "Environments -- Architecture "
Then as i said i would like to test things, Pro bundles often has things that you don't need or want to use after, also it happens that i found free things but they don't have any metadata, and i can't evaluate them well.
What i find very frustrating it's that every time i install something , i basically restet the DB and Reimport everything same if i delete something.
So to rebuild the idea was to reinstall one thing at the time put it inside test folder, check it then move it in the right folder.
It will take time but at least i hope next time i look of a Bed it should be under furniture, not like now under "Environments -- Architecture"
Thanks so much for reply.

This part here would work
People ( Geneisis, Genesis 2)
Clohtes ( same )
Environments (often can’t find, them.)
Furniture, same problem i gace a bed inside “Environments—Architecture
As long as ALL genesis Files like Morphs went into the People folder you would be fine. The rest would work anyway, but the Genesis stuff needs ONE folder that is at default, as in DO NOT move files in it around. Or even make SUB folders just ONE folder.
Then you ADD each Content folder to DAZ Studio as a Path in Preferences like I have a extra one here...
Then in The Content Library Tab you will see EACH folder. Smart content would still be all mixed together in the smart tab.
Yes that's basically what i would like to do, and i already started in some way.
I would like to switch all things, and having multiple folders.
So i created a new separated content folder whit a tree of folders.
Now i would like to test every single things i have then place in the right folder.
Once i done i i swicth the actual messy content, to the new content folder with all them folders and content tested inside the right folder.
The problem is how can i do such thing ? and do you expert think it worth ?
Or there are others different methods.
Thanks so much
Kind Regards
Jack
My two are two Different folders just like I showed. But Then I've not tried your idea in DAZ Studio. Wish you luck, but you will still need each folder listed as above.
Anyway do you think it may work ?
I mean following the "people rule" you said.
Basically when i finished i have the actual "my content" and the new one with all folders.
I go to folder menagment, dump old "My Content", put the new content and them folders..
Delete old Content, and backup new folders with all the items.
I will add, furniture, Indoor sets exc..
Just on thing i need to know how can i test content before deciding if i need it and where to place it.
Should i install DAZ 32 Bit version just to test things , since i use Daz 64 Bit, this way i don't mess actual one, and can test all in a empty content...
Thanks so much
Kind Regards

Just build a new folder and Point DAZ studio to it only to test. Both Versions of DAZ Studio will use the Same settings so 32 and 64 will not work that way. And with that I'm now off to enjoy the day. Hope you have a good Holiday too.
Thank you very much !!
Merry Christmas and a very happy new year
