You apply the same skin preset you are using on the body.

This is yet another reason for not using the smart content pane. I hardly ever use it. I use the content pane. I can select the Genesis 2 figure apply the skin preset. Then select the genitals and apply the same preset. It looks fine in the preview and renders fine too.

With the skin preset still showing in Smart Content (i.e. with the main figure still selected) right-click on it and select Show in Content Library to get to the actual file, which won't go when you switch selections.

I have tried cutting and pasting the materials from the body to the gen - this works fine in preview but when I render I get the ugly triangle over the hip where the genitalia are located.

FWIW, the reason this happens is that copy/paste of surfaces settings only works if the shaders on the two surfaces match. In this case, the G2F figure is likely to have an advanced UberSurface or SSS shader, the geografted bit will, when freshly loaded into your scene, probably have only the D|S Default shader. It's a bit of a nuisance, I know, but hopefully a case can be made to include the shader in copy/paste for the next full D|S version update.

Might have been with the Genesis female ... but a fast way to get surfaces matching was to create a shader.
Selecting the figure's "hip" surface area, create a shader.
Then select the area to be matched and apply the shader to it.
Then create a mat file for said area which can be saved in its materials folder for easy access.

    That's a good idea.

It would also be a nice idea for merchants supplying texture sets to include the necessary mat file (although there's probably some DAZ rule that prohibits the inclusion of components that explicitly confirm the fact that human beings have genitalia!)

Actually there's no such rule lol ...

    ....

Although thinking back on the matter, there is/was one beautiful full texture set for Reby which had no mat files whatsoever. Only found it by snooping through files to see what the download had. Let's call it the Sunburnt texture set ;-) Sometimes a little imagination on how to use stuff I'm certain would have increased sales at the time of release but that's just my 2 cents on the matter.
