Hi everyone! Im a newbie with 3d and im gonna purchase some things to get me started but im getting so lost in all the information. No clue what I need to buy to be honest! Im basically starting from nothing and my goal is to be able to have a character thats very realistic and also have morphs. Thats where my confusion comes in....I dont know if I need to buy genesis 1 or 2, do I need victoria too, and does she come with morphs? I do a lot of child portraits so its very important for me to be able to create that as well. Where do i even begin?? thank you so much for any help!

You don't need to buy Genesis 1 and 2, they are there already as the default characters which come with DAZ Studio.
So to start with ''buy'' DS 4.6 pro (100% discount) make sure that you also download the Starter essentials, there are 2 packs one for each genesis, Install and see what you already have and what you can do with it.
Okay, first off Genesis and Genesis 2 are included with Daz Studio. If you've got that, then download the 'Genesis Starter Essentials' and 'Genesis 2 Starter Essentials' which includes the base figures. Genesis 2 is split into male and female figures, while Genesis is a catch-all figure which can be either. The benefit to using Genesis 2 is that the figure is more detailed and has greater control especially for expressions.
If you want to use children in your work, then I strongly recommend using either Genesis 1, since it comes with a basic child morph which you can make either male or female, or Genesis 2 using the Growing Up morphs which are sold separately. There is also a Growing Up morph set for Genesis 1 which makes the otherwise androgynous Genesis a bit more gender-defined.
Victoria 5 is a character morph for Genesis and Victoria 6 is a character morph for Genesis 2 Female, so those are optional. I will say that buying character packs such as Sisters or Victoria not only give you greater control over the look of your figure but also provide some fantastic textures to make your figures more realistic.
Thank you both for the help! I just saw that i have the base figures so that make things a bit more clear! If I want morphs to be able to make different looks, is that included in the victoria 5/6? or should I get an extra morph set?
You really need the morph sets. Thay are so useful, and many characters do need you to have the morphs.
I see, thank you! Is it neccesary to buy victoria 5/6 if you buy the morph bundle and a different character skin? Sorry for so many questions!
Only if you want to. Seriously you would be better experimenting with what you already have first, see how things work before you start buying too much extra content.
There are morph bundles for G2F and G2M

plus the older morph bundle for Genesis.

These all work without buying any extra characters, but are quite often neccessary for the add on character packages to work
V5 and V6 are characters for Genesis, V5 works on the original genesis and V6 works on the newer G2F.
To save money in the beginning, there are also some very nice morphs available for free. I'd recommend trying them out before sinking a lot of money into the hobby, just to get a feel for how it all works.

You will need to register for free at ShareCG to download these.
Both of these are for Genesis 1, and both have extensive morphs for just about every part of the body. Even after buying various Genesis morphs, I still use these free ones regularly.
I hope these are of use to you! :)
I have some free stuff for both figures, in fact. :-) The DieTrying morphs are available for all three figures (Genesis 1, G2F and G2M) thanks to DieTrying's kind permissions to convert them from the old V4 version. Here's my freebie page at ShareCG.

You will also find Wilmap has all the clothes in the world for g1 and many for g2 as well, and I'd definitely learn your lighting and composition with those before paying for a single outfit anywhere else:

Putting together a wardrobe and library of free stuff will give you a good base to work with, as others have pointed out, and then you can learn to work with the engine before you start giving us money. I mean I'm completely in favor of you buying everything in my store, but why not learn what to do with it first? ;)
Look at this by Jaderail too, please, as it can help you make better scenes:

Thank you all very much, i have learned a lot! Seems like I will be making a choice between genesis 1 or 2 and then decide if I need the victoria at all or just the morphs. Its trickier than it looks but exciting!
