How exactly can i use .3DS file in daz?

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hello i've heared that it's possible to convert 3ds max or cenima 4D files to work in daz but i looked every where but it still unclear what should i do

some say i should export them from 3ds to to .obj, but some commented it wont work because you'll only import the object in daz3d and it will be clean with no texture

so i've been meaning to ask you guys what should i do to get 3ds files to be full usable in daz with its textures and maps?

Try Collada which will keep textures, and .obj works if you also has the .mat files and textures. Collada on the other hand has so many different versions and some a very incompatible between different programs.

For real .3ds and .lwo (not .max & c4d) I always use Poseray (free).
If you have Blender you could do it with Blender too.
But I do not recommend installing Blender only for 3ds file conversion.

This is the first link I found after a Google search for Poseray  --> https://sites.google.com/site/poseray/

    Hope that helps.

Yes, that is the correct site.
Try to get an older version than 3.13.20.
I still have not found out if there is something not correct in my .ini file.

I've been using Poseray. I had to convert some textures to JPEG format to get them to show up properly in DS, but that's not a big problem.

No, PoseRay was primarily developed to use with POV-ray, but it is a stand-alone..
POV-ray is a totally different, bit old-fashioned raytracing program.
    It is completely text-based.
Here are some examples, found on Google Images.

Just export as .obj, put it somewhere on your harddrive (doesn't have to be in your runtime folders).
The only thing you have to consider is that most 3ds (& lwo) objects come from a different platform,
that means that the scaling is totaly inappropriate.
More often than not you have to scale like 7000% instead of the regular 100%.
