Why is my figure difficult to manipulate?
Sometimes (it seems often when I merged the figure from another scene), I have great difficulties manipulating a figure. For instance, if I use a slider to move a limb, instead of a smooth movement that allows me to stop exactly where I want, the slider stays stuck while the computer is calculating and when it's done, the limb moves to some random position (since I couldn't control exactly the movement of the slider). That's a massive pain for poses. Basically it looks like the computer needs to do a lot of calculations for a simple movement, a bit like what happens when I try to change a pose while in Iray view, except that in this case, it's the same in regular texture shaded view.
If I add to the scene the exact same figure, this new one can be manipulated without problem. So, I solve this problem by just deleting the former figure and replacing it. But I can be merging this figure because I personalized it, or it has a particular pose or clothes or whatever, so if it's the case, I have to redo everything with the new figure.
What causes this problem and how could I solve it?

OK, in fact I realized in this case that the difficulties in moving the figure resulted from wearing a specific piece of clothing (that looked inicuous) . I assume that it's a similar reason every time, and also the reason why it happens mostly when I import a figure (because it's fully clothed and I try *then* to pose it, while usually I do the reverse, pose the figure, and then dress it).
In preferences, check if your videocard is on, its in the interface tab I believe.
It may be your computer specs or what's in the scene. Mine move smoothly when I use the parameter sliders on one or two figures. Can act sluggish when the scene gets large or if I have too many textures. I'll switch to smooth shaded or hidden wireframe (think that's the name).
There could also be one or more Smoothing Modifiers applied to some clothing that are updating the collision in the backround.
You can see a little progress bar at the bottom right while the Smoothing Modifiers are working if your interface layout shows the Status Bar.
I would select the clothing and check the Parameters pane for the Mesh Smoothing settings in the General section to turn them down or off.
The more clothings you have Smoothing Modifiers applied to the longer it takes to update while posing.
Also lowering the Mesh Resolution SubD settings for the Preview in both the figure and the clothes can help with responsiveness with larger scenes.
Second this, also check if "interactive" is enabled for the smoothing modifyer, disable it and things should work better!
I don't have an "interface " tab... Well, I don't think so, at least.
I wasn't expecting all these answers for an issue that seemed solved.
Yes, my computer isn't up to the task and everything becoming sluggish for big scenes happens quite often. But in this case (and in similar situations, it happens to me commonly enough) , it's not the whole scene which is an issue, but a specific figure. I can move smoothly all the other figures and props, for instance, just not this one (at least as long as I leave this garnment on her).
I don't understand the sentence "updating the collison in the background" , but if I remember correctly, there was indeed a progression bar. I also don't know what a smoothing modifier or a mesh resolution subD settings but I'll look into it.
As I wrote, while in this case, the issue was solved easily by removing the clothing, when I'm preparing *relatively* large scenes, I often run into this problem of everything being sluggish (I posted here in this case because I didn't understand why a single figure would be sluggish and all the rest fine), so it could be helpful.
I assume that all these settings should be enabled again before rendering? Or are they not really important, and should I let them this way also for rendering?
