File Types and Character Files

I actually have two questions:

1. Is there a document that lists all of the file types used in Daz, such as Scene, Character, and so on, along with the reason to use them?

2. If I want to save a complete character, clothes, weapons, and all, for use in many furture renders, what is the best file type to use. I tried the Character Preset and ended up with a nude version of my character.
