Total Content Purge

Hi,

I've been trying to find some answers to this, but I'm still definitely missing something.

I'm attempting to do a complete purge of my settings and content library. I want to install 4.6 as if it was a fresh, first time, factory default install. I had previously installed some things in non-standard folders and it was beginning to create a bigger and bigger mess. Thus, I'm trying to get back to square one.

... however, no matter how many uninstalls I've done, I can't seem to get a clean install.

With a fresh install, it's still pulling in metadata in my content library. (I have run every content uninstaller I could find on my machine).

It's still remembering other settings as well (as an example, it's still trying to find the starting Genesis.duf in an odd folder.)

I've uninstalled Daz4.6, the install manager and the content management service. I've deleted all Daz files I could find over in AppData. I've removed all library folders, even the empty one.

Is there a better or more efficient way to just completely wipe all Daz data from my system? (Win7)

Thanks.

I had the same issue. There are files that need to be removed from your AppData, which for some reason Daz hasn't added in the option to delete these during uninstall.

    C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4

Replace USER with the account you use on your machine.

They're there for this reason. So you can uninstall/reinstall without losing your settings (say for upgrading from one version to the next), but for people who don't know they're there, and DO want to wipe it all, it becomes a confusing mess.

You must use the CMS uninstaller, it will be in your Program File Menu area under DAZ 3D/Daz Content Management Service. You then need to go to your C Drive (or other if you did a custom install) and in Program files (or (x86) for 32 bit) open the DAZ 3D folder and Delete the Content Management Service Folder after the Uninstall. Then you go to the C Drive/ (USER (your PC name))/Appdata (a hidden folder, will need to set Folders to show Hidden)/Roaming/DAZ 3D and delete any Content Management Service files in it. Then Install DS4.6 again and then your content, ALL Metadata files now will only be from the newly installed files as long as it is installed properly.

ALL this Will give you a 100% CLEAN install. I've done this myself for DS4.6 and a DIM content only folder.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Unfortunately... I killed everything in Appdata/Roaming before I posted. I found some stuff in some public document folders. I deleted all remaining DAZ3D folders in program files(x86), My Documents, etc.

... and yet things are still sticking.

Do you have any suggestions for names of database files or anything that I could try to search for? I think something must have ended up in an unusual location.

Way back when, when I was doing a clean install of D|S 3.x, I remember going in to the registry, doing a search of "DAZ" and deleting every single reference. BUT I do recommend, BACK UP your registry first.

That did the trick for me.

The Metadata that is being pulled in, is it set up as your old Content was or just appearing when you install fresh?

Do a search (and destroy) for dzinstall.ini files, they get scattered all over the place. Revo Uninstaller is a good free (and paid version) uninstaller that has options for hunting down stray files and folders and cleaning registry.

Once you have Cleaned your PC the best you can. Install DS4.6 and STOP do not install any content yet. Do the following in order.

Step one: Open the Content Library Tab use the Mini menu (the four line thing in corner of tab)
Step two: Open the Content DB Manager. Then follow the Below in order. Let each one run fully.

Step three: Install all content to your ONE proper Content folder and then do the Second DB thing.

Thanks, Jaderail. Some things are still behaving a little oddly... but doing that was enough that I can ignore it for now. Problem effectively solved.
