Well ... Textures aren't in Poses. If one were to be absolutely correct about it, textures really and truly are in the Textures folder. What's in the Poser folder is a little itty bitty file that contains instructions that say ... the texture is over here in Textures, grab it and apply it to the object.
I don't mind so much that the files to load the textures are in Poses (Though it makes more sense for them to be in Materials, but not all vendors who provide content for Poser use the Materials format and folder). I'd rather that than for there to be even more folders to have to clean up after installing content.
As for the complaints about how difficult it is to organize content in DAZ Studio (and frustrating to have to do so with new products). I hear you. I absolutely cannot wrap my head around the DAZ Studio structure. I spend probably less than five minutes per product renaming folders and moving them into how I have my content organized (though it's longer if I use D3DIM). It also took more time when I was installing Genesis content because the content is in different locations for DAZ Studio and for Poser.
I'm sorry that something that should be an escape from your problems has only contributed to them. I have maintained myself that this is probably the number one issue with DS (and Poser.) I'm not going to debate the topic, as it's pointless. I will say, I've come up with a method, but the amount of effort to do it is beyond what any one person should have to do, so again, no point in explaining it beyond what I have in previous posts. You are correct that the problem is grievous and needs to be fixed at the source, and not with a patch over top of a mess.
Anyways, this isn't meant to be negative, rather to say I understand. I wish you the best and hope that you find a way to get some enjoyment out of doing the artwork as it really can be good for you. That is the main thing I would say. Don't give up on the artwork as it is important, it does serve a purpose. The fact that you invested so much points this out. Try to find a way to make it work. There are often no simple solutions in life, we just try to find a path that works for us.
The other thing I would say is that community is important. If you do get back on track with your art, come back to the forum if you can. Just put anyone who isn't helpful for you on your ignore list. We shouldn't feel guilty for 'ignoring' people who's outlook is too different from our own to be of value to us. I personally would not be offended to find I was on someone's ignore list.
If you get back involved, let go of things that you can't control, work with what works, interact with those that give us strength.
Peace

Man, frustration can be the worst. Sucks especially when life keeps handing you lemons so often; you can make lemonade, but you can only drink so much lemonade until you're fed up to there and beyond.
I'm not going to give you any advice on what you should do about content and stuff because I've been trying to create digital art since the late '80's and only been online since about 2000, and I still don't really know what the heck I'm doing. : )
Also, I can read, and you ain't asking for advice anyway. So as to what I think you are looking for?
Understanding.
I got that.
The difference is I'm still having fun at this digital art stuff. You aren't. That's normal, it happens. I've taken mini-vacations from the creative side of my brain several times in my nearly 60 years now. It's a good idea to do that. Sometimes it's been a few days. Once, after my Dad died, it was 3 years long. My creativity just dried up during that time. I was just empty. Nada. Couldn't jump-start it so I just let it go. And it always comes back for me so far. Maybe it'll come back for you, maybe not. But joy is where you find it. A smile now and then can work wonders.
So no advice from me. But hang out with us in the Forums. Lurk if you want, post if you want. It's all good. You know I enjoy your virtual company and you are definitely someone I'd miss.
You can find me in the Complaint Thread or Stupid Thread and I'm only a PM away.
Blessings on you and be well, Roy.
Peace.
Once again thank you for all the support from everybody. I would name names, but I know I would leave someone out, so you are all just somebody's for now. :)
My original love is creating videos. I created one video that had all of these pictures of beautiful women in it that I found on the net. All of these women had one thing in common, it was art, stunning art. I said to myself, I want to create that type of art and put it in my videos. A year and a half later here we are, I have just doodled with creating art and have done nothing in the way of videos, my first love. i created a video for a friend the other day and came to the realization, what the hell am I doing with Studio. It has done nothing but cause me to spend an enormous amount of money with frustration after frustration. That is when i decided I have had enough. Maybe the art will become something down the road, but videos is what I enjoy doing. So there it is.
I am getting ready to start a new project. It takes time, but is so pleasing in the end. It makes me proud when I accomplish something that is mine. I have missed that since 3D art entered my life. As artists yourselves, I now know all of you understand where I am coming from. Thank you again for your comments and understanding. I will try to come back at a later date if my health allows it. until then, I wish all of you the best and I will try to stop in and say hi. I will still be around for this weekend, but after that my time is back with something I enjoy.
Roy (hugs for the guys, except the ugly brutish ones like myself and kisses for the women, especially the hot sexy ones)
Thx dazland.
Well, all I can say is I will miss your banter when you go. I do things my own way and I'm pretty sure anything I have to say about content, the need to take brakes or much else would just muddy the waters. I have a few of the posting members here I consider as friends, just one who decides to go is a loss I will feel. You be well and take care of yourself.

I feel your pain. It's a shame that a stricter unified system was not made and enforce, a long time ago. Many vendors stick everything they make in a folder with their name. It's a royal pain! Especially when one vendor makes an item, and 3 other vendors make mats for it, they are all over the place. I learned long ago that I had to organize before I install(poser stuff), and now I have to organize as I install, with the CMS. It is time consuming, I like things neat and easy to find, if I need a dress, I want to find it quickly, then quickly be able to find all the textures for it. No way to do it unless I manually organize everything. When I used to buy a lot, I would literally be spending hours a week just organizing the mess. We buy a lot less now, but it's really not any less annoying. Now with the DIM system of updating, I am prettymuch done buying I think. Sorry didn't read anything other than the opening post, don't have a ton of time right now.
Darn-it! *sad face* I know we haven't talked a lot in these forums, but I'm going to miss you all-the-same Ledhead.
I can certainly sympathize with the content library frustration, but even more I can understand how a serious illness can change your direction and goals in life. Dealing with that myself.
I wish you well and all the best.
If I remember correctly you enjoyed the following music when I posted it in the Complaint Thread. With that in mind, here it is again as a kind of salute and cheer. Turn up the volume, click, and enjoy!
Lucia Micarelli preforms Kashmir (Lead Zeppelin) on the violin
Music always raises my spirit. I hope it does the same for you.
Cheers!
Greetings,
Damn. Be well and be happy, and walk right on away from anything that you can't see clear to helping you with one or both of those.

Ledhead I can honestly say YES you have made the right decision! Can I say yes it will help bring you another 5o yeasr? Of course not, but such a choice has to be made and you made the best choice for you. When facing such a mountain one has to decided should I climb it, reject it, fly over it, or tunnel through it, in the end you have to believe you made the best choice that you felt you could do.
So my prayers to you, and I recommend you don't look back at the choice just move forward in it. Shoulda' coulda' woulda' will always lead to dispair. I believe you made the right choice for you and I am sorry you have to climb this mountain, Can't wait to see you on the other side of it.
As far as frustrations over content management I am so with you brother. I wish DAZ had the ability to right click the content management and put that items into the smart tab of our choice with ease, but since it doesn't I have had to employee my own work around.
This one I first used with Poser 3 (dating myself here)
I keep a link open that leads me to the studio folder for My Library I know content differs from one version of Daz studio to the other, but I use this practice. I try to install items myself without DIM or other installers. If it does not have meta information and does not go into the smart tabs then I go to the folder and move it as needed myself
For example Victoria 4 clothing has taken over my hard drive so what I do is under My Library/Runtime/Libraries/Character/ I have a folder labeled V4 Clothes so all my CR2 or duf files go in here.
Now under the V4 Clothes folder I have multiple folders, if it is free Item I like this folder to have the builders name, it is so hard to keep up with you gave away what.
So let us say you created a V4 clothing item and gave it way free the CR2 or Duf files and any picture thumbnails that go with it would go to My Library/Runtime/Libraries/Character/V4 Clothes/LedHead/ So when I look in the Content Management tab in DAZ I know if i want to use some V4 Clothing Item I should start by looking in that folder.
It was time consuming and I had to move many many folders but once I did this it became so much easier to use Daz Studio and Poser 9 (Yes I upgraded) :)
I built categories for various items Planes, Trains, Automobiles and Space ships go into a character folder named Vehicles. Stuff like that, so now that I have this process in place I make sure to store all my addons to the folders in my Library by first unzipping them to a different location such as the desktop then making sure there is a folder for the item category.
Using the example of your imaginary free V4 clothing item I used above. Let us say you had it saved in folders such as Runtime/Libraries/Characters/LedHead after installing that runtime folder to my desktop I open to the character folder and right click and choose NEW and FOLDER then I name that folder V4 Clothes and drag the LedHed folder into it. Then I have a seperate window open showing my "My Library folder" is for my DAZ content. I just drag the runtime folder with the new content to the My Library folder and Now it is there.
I do this for every Item I can, since DAZ started allowing us to download zip files instead of always using their installer it actually is easier to keep this method going.
I did this same thing for my Props Directory as it is almost as back as my Character directory. Once you do the initial cleanup keeping it clean is pretty easy using 7-zip file manager is easier in my opinion because it opens zip and rar files and since it opens them in the same manner I find it easier to keep up with my installation of new content.
Now having said all that I know that Genesis items that are bought from DAZ are usually stored in a different folder system than the runtime folder, usually but not always. Most of these items show up in the smart tab so are not an issue, but I do have some stuff to look into organizing and plan to someday.
After cleaning up my runtime folders I found that Daz loads faster when clicking on the Content Manager and specifically the figures tab is much better. In fact consolidating the folder made it open MUCH MUCH faster and add to that, now things are easier to find.
My frustration levels with finding and using items went from a category 5 tornado to a strong breeze after doing this.
Peace to you my friend
Roy ( my name is Roy as well) aka Skelch
Here is screen shots showing the folders and simply how to drag and drop the runtime folder from your desktop to the My Library Folder.
I am SO going to miss you.
I always knew you would help me when I posted. I'm selfish!
I think there comes a time when you DO need to take a break, even if you figure out a great way to organize. Do what you really want to do, which is videos!
I hope things go well for you health-wise. That also makes it so important that you do what you really want to do- how much money you have invested in something doesn't matter- time, family, friends- those things do. And you gave me warm and fuzzies every time you responded kindly to my "duh- what am I doing wrong now?" posts. You always helped make it right. Keep in touch- will miss you.
Cathie
To others regarding content-
I don't try to change anything in the studio. I have about 4000 products- and I would tell newbies to download into files that just have the order number. Why? In Product Library, each item has the order number. You go to your file with the order number, install the product, go to Content Library under Products, click on it, done. I have all 4000 products on an external hard drive. I'm not trusting anyone to "keep" my bought content for me! I buy it, I get it.
Well, I can understand your frustration. As a fairly new member to the community and new to 3D art in general, managing content and backward compatibility with Poser Runtime stuff has been a serious challenge for me. I too have spent a ton of money on this very addictive hobby.
I can only speak for myself but my latest film project has taken me away for the last two months, so I have not been contributing as regularly as I was in the past. And though I have missed getting to create new 3D art, it has also been nice to be on a hiatus from DAZ so to speak. Perhaps you just need to step back for awhile then approach the content issue with a renewed interest.
Of course now that V6 and particularly Smay's new Superhero Suit is out I am really starting to feel the sting of not having time to play with DAZ. Darn you Smay! ;)
