Making parts of a part transparent?

[Making parts of a part transparent?] Or, making them disappear from the rest of the part altogether? Is that possible? Here's what I mean.

I'm currently using the SS Marcoor Control Room. You know the heagonal bases there? There are some little light projectors and cables coming off of them. I only need the hexagonal base in a scene, not the light projectors and cables. Is there a way to turn just those unwanted bits off so that they don't appear in the final render? I've circled the parts in question in this image:

Many thanks,

Bob

If they have their own surfae you could seelct them and set their opacity to 0 - you can check that by hovering over one with the Surface Selection tool and see what highlights. If not you could assign them to a new surface by selecting the polygons with the Geometry Editor tool (easiest way is probably to select one polygon, then press ctrl(Win)/cmd(Mac) * to select all the connected polygons and, assuming that has only the bits you want to lose, then right-click>Geometry Assignment>Create Surface from Seelcted Polygons) and make that surface invisible.

Though you may need struggle with geometry editor, if those parts are not assgined as face group, or surface group,

those part which you hope to remove from render (and hide)  is already separated as mesh group with assgined node. then you can simply hide it in scene tab to hide from scene view. and to remove it from render,    go to paramter tab >Display>Rendering>Off

you can find it, in scene tab, expand  "sci_fi_holo_projector_49306" figure,  >projector_base> "Projection_bottom"  like pic.
