Surfaces of scene parts can no longer be changed.

About a week ago something changed in my Surfaces tab editor.
The surfaces tab editor used to show only the same item as is highlighted in my scene tab. And the edits I made only applied to that same item I had highlighted in my scene tab.
But now the surfaces tab editor shows just about every item in my scene, no mater what single item I have selected in my scene. And if I select the item I want to change within my surfaces tab editor and change a surface property for that item, it will change that property for many other items in my scene as well, much against my will. I have not yet determined exactly how many other items in my scene that get changed as well. But on first glance it looks like every single one of them.
How do I make my surfaces tab editor behave the way it used to behave?

The items shown in the surface list is controlled from the Surfaces pane option menu - the lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab. You can show the current selection, the current selection and items parented to it, or all items. I'm not sure what is happening if unselected surfaces are being chnaged - that certainbly shouldn't happen - but if you have surfaces selected on unselected objects those should be affected by parameter adjustments (they won't, however, be affected by presets).
Thanks so much, Richard Haseltine. This fixed it. I had to click on that lined button and check "Display Selected Item(s) Only". Apparently, "Display All Items" had gotten checked.
Anyway, this is a screenshot of the situation I was having:
Clicking on All selects all surfaces in the list, so with all items showing any chnage you make is universal. If you do have extra items listed you would click on them (to select all of their surfaces) or click the triangle to expand and then select individual surfaces as required.
Oh no. You say that "with all items showing any chnage you make is universal."
That's not how it worked. So something was definitely wrong, and probably would be wrong again if I were to go back to "Slect All" mode.
Notice in my screen capture picture that the bed, labled "i13FV Bed" is clearly in the list, but did not get changed to the pink color.
Is this a bug, or a problem specific to my installation of DAZ Studio?
Or, maybe the bed does not actually use the "Diffuse Color" property?
The i13FV Bed does not have any "Diffuse Color" to change. So that explains the behavior I thought might have been a bug.
But now I have a different problem. Now I can no longer change the surface properties of individual parts of a model. See the following screen capture image:
Whoops. This most recent problem came from not having checked the box for "Show Sub Items" in the bottom left of the editor panel.
Yes, if an item doesn't use a property then it won't be affected - you can see a number in front of each property name which shows how many of the selected surfaces have it.
