How do I put scenes into my content manager categories?

lukon100lukon100 Posts: 818

After importing an .obj model as my sole object in a scene, I scale and color it the way I want. And then I want to be able to retrieve that model as I would any other model I retrieve from my content manager categories. If the .obj model is a car, for example, I want to be able to retrieve that car from my content manager under Categories>Default>Tranasportation>Land>The Obj Car rather than trying to find that car among my user files.

Human figures can apparently be saved as some kind of "Character Preset" that can then be categorized like any regular model int the content manager categories. But what about things like .obj cars?

After import obj, then customize as you like in daz stuido, (though it is not modelor, then you can not do many, but set group name etc,)

from top menu>File>Save as>support assets>figure /prop assets.  if it is not rigged , it shold be saved as prop (obj).

it  generate two file. one is duf ( preset) to load the data. you can load the prop with this  preset file.

one is actuall mesh data and UV set (and morphs if you have imported) . it will be located in data directory, as dsf.

check this tutoriall seems easy to follow I think.

    thanks Jen Greenlees.

then I erally hope to ask,, when  daz offer simple clear tutoriall or documents, for these how to save things ?   I really feel strange, why I can not find clear link from daz document about these things.

or daz say, it is good for new user?  I can not believe, it is clear documents who just  want to save import obj as porp.

once you saved it as prop, you can find the prop sublset where you saved.duf from content library.

then you can categorize subuset as you like as same as other preset.

but I usually categorize, when I save as prop by input category, or choose one of default category group  to find easy from smart content as temp category.

these pic are almost same as Jen Greenlees tutoriall, I just cateogrize, and set compatiblity (it will need when you save mat preset for the prop, and use it as smart content )

Thanks so much for your reply, kitakoredaz.

Wow. That procedure seems really complicated. Peraps I am better off just loading my user-created scene after all.

It's not that complicated. You don't have to create "Categories". You can categorize strictly by folder structure.

Thanks for replying, fastbike1. That suggestion seems promising. So how do I do it? I'm not clear on what you mean by "folder structure" and how such a structure relates to the structure in the content manager.

Currently, I keep my saved scenes on my user hard drive, whereas my DAZ Studio program and all the raw models (the "My Daz Studio Library" directory tree) are on my Windows system hard drive. My best guess at what your suggestion means is that I put my scene files for imported obj models into this "My Daz Studio Library" directory tree somewhere, on the premise that doing so will also make them appear in content manager. Is this essentially what your suggestion means?
