how do I apply textures and images to a prop?

I have been trying to figure this out for awhile. I created my first prop a little while back, can of whipped cream. Seemed like a simple start, simply a cylinder, spere, and tube. It looks good, then I sent to Hexagon and saved it as and obj file. That took a lot of research to figure that one out, otherwise it would just save as a cylinder.

Now I want to apply a texture with a name on it, and silver for the base and top, but white for the can. How do I apply different textures to it? It just wraps the whole thing in whatever texture I select. Also I tryed to make it so the name on the can is proportionate to the size of the can, but it always stretches and pulls itself into blurry words. I tryed several different sizes of image, always the same though, any good advise on that as well?

Thanks everyone, Brian

You can use the Geometry Editor in Daz Studio to select polygons and assign them to a new Surface - sicne you started from separate primitives I doubt theya re welded together so you could click to select a polygon, press ctrl(Win)/cmd(Mac) * to select all of the connected polygons (which should be one piece, such as the base), right-click, Geometry Assignment>Create new Surface from selected. Repeat for the other parts and you can then give thems eparate settings in the Surfaces pane (each surface will be listed below the item name). You can also do this in Hexagon.

Wrapping an image, suce as the name, around the mesh depends on the UV mapping - Hexagon will lt you export a template, as far as I know, which you can use to guide the placement of elements - you will probably find that, as yous tarted from primitives with the defautl mapping, each part sprawls over the whole of the UV square and that they overlap.
