Opening a door on a one piece obj. car? How?!

Hello everybody! Still learning about all this Daz3d Stuff! Thanx to all you guys! :D

Well... I downloaded a free 1966 Mustang car object... It's a one piece object. I am trying to get it to look as if the passenger door is open...
I tried using the geometry tool, selecting the polygons that compose the door, one by one, and making them not visible, in order to make the car look like it does not have the passenger door on... Then I had planned on loading another copy of the Mustang object, select the door, polygon by polygon, and not making visible the car and leaving the door visible... Then I'd combine the two objects in order to place the visible door, beside the car, as if the door was opened...

The problem is selecting polygon by polygon take HOURS and if you select the polygon that is not the correct one, and you make it not visible, you have to start over again from the beggining, there is no undo! In the end, I was not successful... Anybody have any idea how this could be done in an easier and more efficient fashion?

Use Selection Sets in the Geometry Editor to save partial selections so you don't have to keep hiding/unhiding. Also remember that you have shorcuts to select all connected (cmd/ctrl *) and to grow the selection (cmd/ctrl +) among other things. The hidden/shown state is not saved in any event so you would want a way to rebuild it (or you can. once done seelcting, hide parts and then Delete Hidden).

If you roughly select the door and grow the selection a few times does the selection just wrap around the door or does it bleed out into the rest of the body? If it's confined to the door then you could fairly easily rig the car asa  figure though I won't try giving a quick guide tot hat until knowing whether it might work.

I did it! I used Select Connected and it cut the time to make not visible the selected polygons!

I used this thread to acomplish it! https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/13048/how-do-i-rig-a-door-to-open-and-close

    Thanx fer the help! :D

Yeah, the nice thing about grow selection is that if the object was all one thing really, it wouldn't help much.

But it stops when it covers all of one piece of the object, so it's a great way to 'decompose' a single object into the parts that it was assembled from.
