Installing content from a .exe help!

adoniogtsadoniogts Posts: 98

Hello Daz Community! Couldn't live with out ya! :)

I'm trying to install content from an old .exe daz set up installer. The installation runs fine automatically, but the content can't be found or seen in the Daz program...

I've tried with multiple other .exe daz set up installers for other content and the same thing happens. Might it be installing in the wrong directory? Is the .exe too old to work with Daz 4.9? Any info would be greatly appreciated! :/

    If it is this one:

    https://www.daz3d.com/monster-rat

The simplest solution for you might be redownloading the content: all 3 options are available; manual (,zip) dl, dim or connect

Without knowing how you installed DS, it is difficult (for me) to say what would otherwise be best...

Oh! Problem solved! The set up installer automatically installs the content in the Program Files (x86) >DAZ>Studio>Content...

I just took the MonsterRat runtime folder and put it in Document>DAZ 3D>Studio>My library...

I just drag and drop the folder on there in some blank space and it installs automatically in the runtime folder... Now it works!

    Thanx tho! ;)

Content should never be installed to the Program Files folder.  Un-install, download the latest zip with DIM and let it doits job.

It's working perfectly, but those ancient installers didn't always work in an obvious way. See those two radio buttons? The "Specified Directory" is the old default installation location (no longer used), way back before the Program Files folder became a reserved location; you must never try to install content there.

The simplest solution is, as mentioned above, redownload your content installers as the new .zip format, either manually or using the DIM installer, or you can use the Connect system built into DAZ|Studio.

If you can't get the new format installers, though (e.g. if you have any of the old freebies that aren't available any more) you can run the .exe installer and select the "Destination Directory" which lets you choose all the content locations D|S knows about. This should include the new default content locations, probably in your My Documents folder.

One more gotcha; be aware that these old installers do not include the extra data that lets a product show in the Smart Content tab, and they will probably all be Poser format content, so look in the Content Library tab, inside the Poser Formats section.
