Why are download speeds so slow, and what's being done about it?

Sorry, but I have to wonder why many free sites have download speeds of over 1 Mbps while Daz3D's download speeds are usually in the 100 Kbps range.
And this is for content I bought & paid for, from a company that (presumably) makes a profit on the transaction.
Hello, Daz3D, it's 2017!!!

I consistently get at least 1MB/sec maxing out at 2.4MB/second here at DAZ
What downlload method are you using, DIM, Connect or Manual.
This morning I am getting 2.9 Mb/s on a manual download. even weekdays I get between 1.9 and 2.5 Mb/s
I've been using DIM, but I once tried a manual download with the same result: speeds in the 100 - 150 kbps range, so I went back to DIM. A week or two ago I was surprised and delighted when my downloads blazed in at over 2Mbps, but the next day they were poking along at their usual pace. I can usually live with that, but yesterday I bought several HDRI packs totalling around 4Gb. I started downloading them at 11:30 a.m. and didn't wrap up until 9:00 p.m.
Guess I'll try a manual D/L again, see if it's any faster.
How often do you reboot your router? I find that if I get slow speeds rebooting the router usually fixes it. The ISP I use has a habit of doing work overnight and that can impact on speed until the router is refreshed.
My download speeds are pretty much the same as Chohole's. Remember that some ISPds throttle customers lines.
I'll certainly try a reboot, though downloads from other sites (e.g. the Internet Archive) haven't shown any signs of slowing down.
And I guess I'd better edit this thread's title, if I can. I was feeling a wee bit frustrated when I wrote it.
[ edit: OK, I removed 'pathetically'.
