Stockings - smooth in NVidia preview, pokey in render

Short of being forced to buy something, is there a way to deal with close-fitting clothing that looks perfect in the preview, but when rendered, has poke-through all over the place? Why is this not visible BEFORE rendering?
I'm using the Flight Attendant stockings with a figure that has a bit of musculature applied. The JPEG image is the preview, the PNG is a quick, rough IRay render - from one to the other, it's like the rendering process shrinks the stockings! And they have no fit adjustments, so I'm kind of at a loss as to what causes this and how it can be fixed, short of spending MORE money. I've tried adjusting smoothing, I've tried adjusting collision iterations, neither work.

Try changing your render resolution to the same number as your general subD level. You need to go to the parameters tab, mesh resolution and you should see two lines (subdivision level and render subD). It could very well be doing this because the figure *might* have HD morphs. Also, make sure smoothing is on if possible.
Also, displacement could be a problem here too. Mesh smoothing does not counteract displacement, which in-turn causes poke-through. Go to the surfaces tab with your figure selected and remove any displacement maps. Give this all a try and report back if there's still an issue.
For these stockings, neither of those are in the mesh resolution window - only "resolution level," of which "base" is the only option. There's nothing loaded into the displacement node; I set the bump and normal nodes to .5, and added a gradient to the displacement node; it seems to have helped. I had to use the gradient because, with an even gray tone, the stocklings poked through the shoes, and since the poke through was nearer the top, I figured the gradient would prevent a 'step' in the surface while still pushing the surface out where it needed to. It seems to work, but ... wow ..
It's not displacement on the stockings that muck up tight clothes with pokethrough, its diplacement and HD morphs on the figure wearing it. Clothes cannot follow it a lot of the time. It's a pain in the butt, for close ups now I either render twice, once with HD and or displacement, once without HD or displacement, then put the non pokethrough clothes onto the hd figure in photoshop. Or I just get lazy and use the clone stamp to fix any poke throughs.
