Having problems with Genesis 3 Characters working properly when importing a BVH file from IPI prog

Hello everyone,

I have searched all over the internet to find a solution. I have Genesis 3 Characters and when i record a BVH from the IPI Studio program or the Brekel Pro Body and try to import it to the Genesis 3 Character it never looks like the original animation recorded. It is very stiff the legs will not move properly and the bones do no match. Is there any quick fix to make the BVH work in the Genesis 3 Characters?  I am at my wits in trying to make this work. Is there anyone with the same issue. Thank you!

    to put it bluntly

They stuffed something up for BVH on Genesis 3

it works on everything else even the Centaur body

Only way I can load a BVH on it is on a triax converted cr2 import in Poser ticking the second import options but the hip stays still.

in my case from iClone but the same would apply to any other BVH

Wow! I thought by now someone would have a fix. Thanks for your input. I saw this guy on Youtube named Joe (i can not remember his last name) He shows a Genesis 3 Darius 7 character animated using the Brekel system.  I wonder how he got it to work.   So frustrated......

if its who I think it is, he renders in Cinema 4D

you can load a BVH on Genesis 1&2 as well as V4, M4 etc then use one of the conversion scripts

Is there a freebie for animation? I have some pose corrector scripts, but they only work on the current frame.

@Torbor : My Pose and animation conversion for multiple generations of DAZ figures freebie script can do conversion of both poses and animations.

@donte4011 : There have been several fairly detailed discussions about the Genesis 3 BVH issues in the forums.  A relatively recent one can be found in Import export animation for genesis3 edit.

In a nutshell, in DAZ Studio 4.9.3.166 and earlier, the BVH import and export feature is broken/deficient for Genesis 3 (and actually for earlier generations as well, its just much more noticeable on Genesis 3).  Translations are never exported for anything except the hip bone so facial expressions can never be exported and I believe translations on non-root/hip bones are ignored on import as well.  The rotation order of bones is incorrectly always specified as ZXY on export and the rotation order is ignored on import.

I wrote test scripts that import and export BVH files to test these issues.  I was able with my test scripts to correctly import and export BVH for Genesis 3, but the import script is very slow and both are unfinished.  I then rediscovered the rsg scripts that I used for my Pose and animation conversion for multiple generations of DAZ figures script and considered the problem solved for my workflow, so haven't done any more work on my BVH scripts.

  • It was my understanding that V4, M4 and he Genesis figures (I'm lumping all three versions together) use the Hip as the root node rather than the feet, and you need to use "corrected" BVH animation files to properly animate them that way.
