NON power user, low system resource settings

Hi, I want to do some very basic human  figure posing.  what are the best ways to minimize features so that my i7 laptop with 10 gb of RAM can accomplish this?  I used poser years ago, and you could "dumb down" a lot of the details with it, but haven't found a similar way to decrease system demand.

Is the issue the posing or the rendering? If the latter, how photo-real are you wishing to get?
