Daz 4.9 and old GPUs - Can we have a downgrade option?!

So I've never been active on the forums here as I never had any problems actually, except this time when I thought I could take the update to 4.9, it reads so nice.

Well what I didn't know is that the Iray update seems to need something vastly more powerful than my GTS 450 potato. 4.8 worked fantastic though with it.

So whenever I try to render something I keep getting "verbose Iray" error lines in the log window and there's just absolutely nothing happening even after 30 minutes. It stays at 0%.  After reading a bit up here I find myself aware that this has to do with memory usage and I understand my rig simply lacks the power (propably).

Unless I am missing something this effectively disallows me to render anything at all thoug and I am not really sure what to do here as 4.8 seems no longer available to download for whatever reason. I'd really like to go back to 4.8.

I think you are missing something as the requirements of the renderer did not change between 4.8 and 4.9.  The only memory limitation is the same one that has always been there: to render with GPU the scene must fit into available video RAM. That has not changed and has always been a condition of using the GPU.

The verbose messages are not necessarily errors - there was an issue with the reporting of progress in the earluer version of the Iray update so Daz turned on the verbose option to skim progress reports, and some of us liked getting the memory breakdown so it hasn't been switched off. The update did change which cards are supported, and does have a higher minimum driver version (372.x or hogher is advised) but assuming you can get a current driver you should still be able to use your card.

I guess I stand moderately corrected.  That's not unusal.

  • Oh good lord. I'd like to apologize for wasting everyones time with this.

Mentioning that the requirements are actually the same turned out to be quite enlightening to me. Since 4.9 didn't happen just yesterday, I definitely believe someone telling me that here - And in fact Evilded777 was right.

The culprit was my own stupidity. I remembered that textures usually take up most of the memory, or at the very least a lot. Tattoos happen to be textures, or those I used at least and yeeeaah... I just went without them into it and the program renders just fine. I keep getting the verbose lines of course but Richard explained that as well.

Apologies again. I took that line as an error and automatically went panic googling. blush
