Transferring fully rigged characters

Is there a way to build a character in DAZ Studio and then export it, fully rigged and textured into another program like 3DS Max.  I know you can do do some of this in Alembic Exporter with objects and definitely with characters (although the Texture ID's need to be reassigned once you move it in there), but I don't think it transfers the rigging ability.

Try FBX or Collada, though I don't know how well either will work.

In general fbx and collada will transfer a rought rig that needs to be refined. That is, you will get a good enougth weight map and bones, plus the morphs you select to export. But you will loose the joint morphs connection and any ik handle/structure. These need to be rebuild from scratch. As for materials, textures will pass fine with minor adjustements, but any complex material and/or shader will be lost. It is better to convert anything to DAZ Default and give it a look before exporting.

A simple yet effective trick to simplify the refinement process, is to export the model to a ik and joint friendly pose. That is, with arms and legs bended. This helps both ik and joint deformations to work better without much need of refinement.
